Creating a Ready to Hang Antique Photograph Restoration for Less than $40.00!!!

This article explains the process used for an antique photograph restoration. The creation of a ready to hang historic photograph starts with a high resolution scan of the original.

As received this 5×7 was faded, but no serious deterioration. In this condition as received, the results should be good. The restoration budget was limited to $15 to scan, resize, and enhance, and the printing budget on archival paper was $25. So this is what we accomplished for $40.

The image was enhanced for clarity, colorized with a uniform tint. A digital mat was added, along with a description of the location the photo was taken and the family member. The digital mat and the text are actually printed onto the photo itself. A great way to save the cost of matting! Place this restoration in a simple black or brown frame, and let the image tell the story. Enlarged to 11×14 and framed it makes a beautiful restoration ready to be shared!
